The Kingdom of Bahrain’s Prime Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa met on Saturday with a leading opposition figure, who heads one of the island's oldest religious associations.
Abdul Wahhab Hussein, Chairman of the Islamic Enlightenment Society, a powerful group amongst Bahrain Shiites, paid a courtesy call to the Premier Court "to thank the prime minister for his support to the association and all civic society organizations," BNA news agency said.
Sheikh Khalifa had granted the group a piece of real estate for the purpose of building a headquarters for the society.
In the course of the meeting, the Premier expressed his appreciation for the contribution of all national groups to the political, social and economical reforms currently taking place in the country.
Hussein, who leads a hard-line current among the kingdom’s various political movements, has frequently called for boycotting the forthcoming parliamentary elections, due to take place in October, underlining his opposition to the recent constitutional amendments which gave the appointed Shura Council legislative powers equal to those assigned to the elected House of Representatives.
