An art competition organized in Bahrain on Thursday to highlight the perils of smoking attracted 75 youngsters, reported the Gulf Daily News.

The one-day competition was organized by the education ministry, in co-operation with the Health Ministry and the Bahrain Anti-Smoking Society “to allow youngsters to demonstrate what they know about the issue, also to discover new talents,” said the daily.

Event supervisor Jawad Mahmood told the paper that “this year the program aimed to promote the anti-smoking message.”

He added, “Art as an educational tool for youngsters is a very effective method, because it gives the students an opportunity to express themselves.”

The students, aged nine to 12 years, were from 20 government primary schools and four private schools and painted a variety of paintings on the anti-smoking theme —Albawaba.com
