Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) opened Sunday a new $21.5 million gas concentration units (GCU) wet gas compressor, reported the Gulf Daily News.

The wet gas compressor will result in lower maintenance costs and a decrease in annual conversion losses, Bapco officials said.

Bapco previously had eight gas engine-driven reciprocating compressors in the GCU, which have been operating since 1944.

These compressors were not only antiquated, but with increasing age, they also required considerable maintenance to keep their optimum operating factors, one official said.

An extensive cost analysis by a multi-discipline Bapco team estimated the annual average maintenance costs every year to be more than $2.5 million (BD945,000).

The forecast of the losses due to throughput and conversion restrictions and maintenance costs through to next year was calculated at $15.6 million (BD5.8 million), with losses in 2003 alone being $9.4 million (BD3.5 million), he said – Albawaba.com
