On Sunday, Iraq said it would complete the handover of Kuwait's national archives, looted by Iraqi forces in the course of the 1990-1991 occupation of the emirate, in a period of three days.
The handover, which started on October 20 at the United Nations-monitored demilitarized zone along the Iraq-Kuwait frontier, has taken place in a "positive atmosphere," the head of the Iraqi delegation handling the return of the archives, Ghassan Mohsen Hussein, said in a statement.
Hussein added that the handover would be completed on Wednesday.
Baghdad has thus far handed over an amount of 409 boxes to the Kuwaiti authorities containing documents from the interior and foreign ministries concerning Kuwaiti state security, according to AFP.
In addition, Iraq has said it is returning the documents in line with an agreement reached under United Nations auspices with the participation of the Arab League, and also in keeping with pledges Baghdad made during March's Arab summit, which took place in Beirut.(Albawaba.com)
