BAE Systems is displaying the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV), during the 7th Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference (SOFEX) held at the King Abdullah II Airbase near Amman, Jordan March 31-April 3.

The Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles is comprised of 21 variants that can provide a wide range of capabilities to military services. The variants include standard cargo trucks, tractors and wreckers. Other variants include dump trucks, expansible vans for field staffs and chassis for missile launchers and air defence. All FMTV variants have seen service in the Middle East in the last few years and share 80% commonality in their components.

“FMTVs are combat-proven, highly reliable trucks that deliver high performance in demanding combat environments,” said David Landecker, sales director, Middle East, part of BAE Systems’ Medium/Heavy Vehicles.  “Furthermore every variant can be equipped with after-market, combat-proven armoured cabs to increase crew protection,” Landecker said.

The FMTV is the U.S. Army’s medium tactical truck and over 40,000 FMTVs are now in service around the world. As the U.S. Army’s truck, the FMTV is well on its way to becoming the largest modern fleet of medium tactical trucks in the world and global customers can expect a full package of integrated logistic support from a robust support infrastructure for years to come.

Produced in Sealy, Texas, the FMTV display will feature the M1085 A1, supplied by the Jordanian Army, as well as a demonstration of the FMTV M1083 which can be viewed on April 1 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm and April 2-3 from 10:30am to 11:30am for comment.

BAE Systems will display the FMTV in Booth B180 at the 2008 SOFEX show. Additional Information is available through www.baesystems.com/mps.

FMTV Facts:  One unique attribute of the FMTV is their combat proven armor protection systems. More than 40,000 FMTV trucks and trailers which are in service globally have a record mean-time-between-failure rate of 21,000 miles. The commonality of parts among the FMTV family includes shared engines, transmissions, power trains, tires and cabs. This commonality of parts across truck chassis variants significantly reduces the logistical burden in addition to operating and support costs for the U.S. Army.  During production of the FMTV, BAE Systems held a record of 37 consecutive months of 100 percent on time delivery, 28 consecutive months of trailer deliveries and 23 consecutive months without missing a schedule for spare parts.
