Dairy products fortified with a live culture that fights harmful bacteria to keep the body healthy will be produced in the UAE for the first time, reported the Gulf News on Tuesday.

Goods pumped with the healthy live culture Gefilac will be made in Dubai by Al Ain Dairy and are expected to hit the stores in July.

The company’s chairman, Saeed Khalfan Matar Al Romaithi, said manufacturing the new products meant the UAE will be entering a market worth an estimated $6 billion worldwide.

Finnish company, Valio Ltd, will supply Al Ain Dairy with Gefilac — the live culture scientifically proven to help fight harmful bacteria.

Available in more than 25 countries, Gefilac comes in yogurt, yogurt drinks and milk.

Valio, which holds a 78 percent share of Finland's dairy milk market, first launched Gefilac in the Finnish market in 1990 – Albawaba.com
