Australian Prime Minister John Howard said his country would consider the matter of joining the United States if and when Washington decided to launch an offensive against Iraq.

"Clearly, Iraq’s behavior, in relation to the weapons of mass destruction, has been offensive to many countries, including the United States and Australia. But the question of action by the United States is a matter for the United States," Howard conveyed during a joint news conference with US President George W. Bush, according to KUNA.

Should President Bush seek Australia’s help against Iraq, the Prime Minister stated, "We would consider them in the circumstances, at the time, if they occur."

President Bush, on his part, praised Australia and said, “America has no better friend anywhere in the world than Australia.” (albawaba.com)
