AUD HOSTS HARVARD STUDENTS IN SECOND PART OF HCAP
US CONSUL GENERAL PAUL SUTPHIN TO LECTURE
21 NATIONALITES REPRESENTED
The American University in Dubai (AUD) is hosting 15 students from Harvard College, part of the partnership between the University and the Harvard College in Asia Program (HCAP), for the second year. The objective of the conferences is to create unique, global, and holistic experiences that address the same issues in a variety of different approaches.
15 delegates from Harvard are participating as well as 10 AUD students in the second part of the HCAP held at AUD from March 21-29, 2009. This year’s group is multicultural where, among the 25 delegates, there are 21 different nationalities represented. The program is full of academic and cultural activities based on the theme “Opportunities and Challenges: Education in a Globalized World”. AUD students recently returned from the first part of this exchange conference held in Cambridge and are very appreciative and honored to have taken part in this great learning experience.
Andrei Cristea, Finance Chair and Board Member for HCAP comments on their upcoming trip to Dubai: "The Harvard delegation is extremely excited and fortunate for having the opportunity to visit AUD. The theme of this year's HCAP conference is education in a globalized world, and AUD is a perfect example of how an educational model can be successfully transplanted to a different cultural and geographic environment than the one it was initially designed for. We will be fascinated to learn how Dubai has become an economic wonder-city in the UAE through terrific foresight of its leaders and a shared effort of all its inhabitants. Most importantly, we are looking forward to seeing all of the AUD delegates again, making many new friends and lots of lasting memories."
For the second year in a row, Mr. Paul Sutphin, US Consul General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, has generously accepted to take part in the conference and will be giving a 45 minute lecture on “Globalization, Education and Intercultural Understanding” on March 22nd followed by a Q&A.
Discussions with professors, special workshops, and student-led presentations are important elements of the HCAP academic experience. Additionally, all conferences include a variety of site-seeing excursions, city and campus tours, as well as meetings with top government and business leaders. The social portion is no less vital and includes nightlife exploration, museum visits, and other unique recreational activities .
