President Bashar Al Assad warned Israel on Monday that it would pay a heavy price if it attacked Syria.
“Israel might be able to control the beginning of a war, but will not be able to control its end or its results,” Assad said in an interview with the Lebanese daily As Safir on Monday.
"We know that Israel is much more advanced than us in some military fields, but we will not just sit back and take the strikes and then be forced to accept Israeli peace conditions," he said, cited by the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA.
On July 1, Israel carried out a new raid against Syrian military positions in Lebanon, injuring two Syrian troops and one Lebanese.
The raid was in retaliation for an attack by the Lebanese Hizbollah movement against Israeli army positions in the occupied Shabaa Farms area.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has said the annexation of the Golan Heights, seized from Syria in 1967, should be made irreversible.
