Syrian President Bashar al-Assad discussed with Chief of the PLO Political Department, Farouk Qaddoumi on Sunday the latest developments in the region and in the Palestinian arena. According to SANA, the Syrian leader stressed Syria's support to  everything  agreed upon by the Palestinians, and the need for strengthening the Palestinian national unity.

He also underlined the importance of the continuation of the inter Palestinian dialogue for "fulfilling the aspirations of the Palestinian people for ending occupation, restoring rights and for establishing the Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital."

Earlier, Qaddoumi stressed that the Palestinian issue remains the central cause in the Arab-Israeli conflict. In a press conference held following his meeting with vice President Farouk al-Shara, Qaddoumi said "the Israeli occupation of the Arab territories in Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon still constitutes for all of us the main concern, so we have to share with each other this concern particularly that the Arab sides are the parties concerned in this regard."
