Emerging fashion designers from across the Middle East are coming together to express their creativity and share their talent at the first-ever Middle East edition of the 2007 Lancôme Colour Designs Awards.
Inspired by the 2007 spring/summer make-up collection created by Lancôme’s Artistic Director Gucci Westman, designers from across the region will create mini collections of garments that will be showcased at a glamorous fashion show gala event in Dubai in mid-March.

“Lancôme is happy and proud to support creative talent in fashion in the Middle East,” says Khadija Chahine, Lancôme Director for the Middle East.

“Beauty and fashion are invariably linked. The Lancôme Colour Designs Awards is a contest that embodies the very essence of our brand by celebrating creativity in make-up and innovation in fashion. It also represents our commitment to encourage and support tomorrow’s designers in this region.”

After a rigorous regional selection process, 10 aspiring designers have been chosen, based on their sketches and past creations, from the following countries: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Tunisia, Lebanon, Iraq, and Jordan.

Following a briefing session by Lancôme’s team of make-up experts, the designers will spend the next two months interpreting Lancôme’s 2007 spring/summer make-up inspiration into a 4-piece mini collection of women’s luxury wear.

At the heart of Gucci Westman’s new make-up collection is the “Pop Cherub” theme which celebrates modern fantasy through stunning colour contrasts: pink runs wild with precious pastel green, and flashy reds meet with dashes of gold and silver.

Lancôme’s “Pop Cherub” collection invites the designers to revisit the XVIIIth century Marie Antoinette-era interpreted through pop images of the cherub in a dreamlike setting.

“Our spring/summer make-up collection has been inspired by a Marie Antoinette-like, young vibrant woman who daringly plays with the colours of life,” says Ayman Fakoussa, Lancôme Senior Product Manager for the Middle East.

“We hope to see our budding designers unleash their passion and creativity by reinterpreting her style as presented by Lancôme’s colour palette into contemporary fashion.”

The ready-to-wear collections from each designer will be judged at the Middle East final on their creativity, luxuriousness, and femininity. The following three prizes will be awarded:

 Lancôme Colour Designs Awards for Colour & Texture: awarded to the designer who has played and worked the best with colour, fabric and light and whose collection best reflects the make-up line.
 Lancôme Colour Designs Awards for Innovation: awarded to the most innovative approach to the design and cut of the outfits along with the most innovative use of raw materials.
 Lancôme Colour Designs Awards for Modern Femininity: awarded to the designer who best expresses the personality of the woman who inspired the make-up collection.

The three winners will be given the opportunity of a lifetime to compete at the award’s prestigious worldwide final in Paris this summer.

About the LCDA:
The LCDA was first organised in London in 2001, and was developed to create and grow the affinity between the Lancôme brand and consumers through the spirit and creations of the nation’s young talents in fashion designing. Lancôme International immediately saw its potential as a worldwide platform and successively grew it into an international competition. The event has now been exported to 10 countries across the world – France, UK, China, Netherlands, Malaysia, Korea, Israel, Japan, Australia, and Canada. The LCDA will be held for the first time in the Middle East this year.
