Armed clash leaves 2 Iraqi security forces killed in Kirkuk

ALBAWABA - The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday the arrest of 14 suspects in connection with an armed clash that occurred in front of a candidate's headquarters in Kirkuk province.

The armed attack resulted in the death of two security forces officers and injuries to civilians, the ministry confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.

The ministry said that it "mourns with great sadness and sorrow the two martyrs of duty from the emergency police in Kirkuk Governorate, who were killed while performing their duties to protect citizens and maintain security."

The Iraqi authorities explained that "at 2:00 a.m. today [Nov. 11], a fight broke out in front of a headquarters belonging to one of the candidates, which escalated into an armed attack by the candidate’s guards, resulting in the martyrdom of two members of the emergency police upon their arrival at the scene of the incident, in addition to the injury of two citizens who were transferred to the hospital for treatment."

The Ministry of Interior affirmed that it "will deal firmly with any attack targeting security forces or threatening security and stability, and will apply the maximum penalties according to the law against violators."
