Aramex, the global logistics solutions provider, today announced that two of their veteran runners achieved yet another triumph at the recently concluded Austria Ultra Marathon 2009. Aramex athletes Salameh Al Aqra and Mohammed Al Suwaiti, won the 1st and 6th places, respectively. Both athletes achieved their respective positions for the third time in the competition. The marathon was held in Gaming, Austria.

The Austria Ultra Marathon is considered one of the toughest mountain footraces in Europe and one of the most competitive races in the international circuit. The 202-kilometre ultra marathon sees participation from leading international athletes. This year, the event saw over 1,400 participants from across Europe and other countries.

”Our participation in the Austria Ultra Marathon offered us a unique experience on an athletic and a personal level, by giving us the opportunity to compete with some of the world’s most prominent international runners and fulfill what we have been working very hard to achieve,” said Al Al Aqra.

“This success is an achievement and inspiration not just for Aramex, but for all aspiring Jordanian and Arab athletes. I would like to thank the entire team at Aramex for their invaluable and ongoing support,” said Al Suwaiti.

Commenting on the achievement, Raji Hattar, Chief Sustainability and Compliance Officer for Aramex, said: “This accomplishment is another demonstration of the potential of Jordan and the wider region in producing exceptional international athletes worthy of support and encouragement. These two athletes represent the same values of hard work, perseverance and dedication that the Aramex brand stands for.”

Aramex has been supporting the two athletes since 2000, enabling them to further their career in athletics, and achieve advanced results in various regional and international competitions. This initiative is in line with Aramex's community programme dedicated to supporting young athletes and encouraging them to pursue professional sports.

Earlier this year, Al Aqra and Al Suwaiti won the 3rd and 58th place respectively in the Marathon Des Sables 2009, which the two runners participated in for the fourth consecutive year.
