Palestinian President Yasser Arafat will hold talks on the peace process with Jordan's King Abdullah and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, and envoys from the United States and the European Union over the next few days, an official said Sunday.
"Arafat is due to visit Cairo on Monday to discuss the latest developments with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and then meet Jordan's King Abdullah II, probably on Tuesday," Arafat aide Nabil Abu Rdeineh told AFP.
Arafat's meeting with Mubarak will focus on "ways to advance the peace process" and this month's meeting of the Jerusalem Committee of the Organization for the Islamic Conference,
The committee is due to meet on August 28th in Morocco following a call by Arafat, who returned to Gaza on Saturday after a 25-nation tour to drum up support for Palestinian demands over Jerusalem and their plans for statehood.
Control over Jerusalem is the key stumbling block in the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and disagreement over the fate of the Holy City led to the collapse of the Camp David summit on July 25th.
"Before ending the conflict, the most important thing is to solve the question of Jerusalem," Arafat told reporters on Saturday.
US Middle East envoy Dennis Ross, who began a shuttle mission to the region on Thursday to try to overcome the obstacles to a peace accord, is expected to meet Arafat on Monday after his return from Cairo, Abu Rdeineh said.
Arafat is also due Sunday to meet with EU Middle East envoy Miguel Moratinos in the West Bank town of Ramallah and later chair a Palestinian leadership meeting - GAZA CITY (AFP)
