The Palestinian president’s doctor, Ashraf al Kurdi, denied the news reports claiming the deterioration of Arafat’s health as a result of the siege, which the Israeli forces impose on his Ramallah headquarters.
Dr. Kurdi told Albawaba.com that the results of the blood samples of Arafat revealed that his health was good.
The doctor who accompanied the Jordanian Foreign Minister, Marwan al Mua’sher, on his visit to Arafat in his besieged headquarters last Thursday said, “the results of the comprehensive medical check up which I performed on the president during the visit including an electrocardiogram revealed that he was enjoying good health.”
Kurdi, a former Jordanian Minister of Health, indicated that Arafat was in very good psychological, mental and physical health but he was suffering from exhaustion, which can affect any person under siege. The Palestinian president is not an ordinary person as he is a besieged leader who is concerned about the plight of his people and so no wonder that he looked exhausted, said Kurdi.
“In fact I don’t know whether this leader is besieged, imprisoned or taken as a prisoner of war and despite all of that Washington comes out and holds him responsible for any operation against Israel,” added Kurdi who noted the miserable conditions under which Arafat is besieged.
“The place is terrible as the amount of oxygen is not ample for the large number of people under the siege in addition to the fact that Arafat sleeps in a small room with a space area not exceeding one and a half square meters,” said Kurdi concluding that he carried some necessary medicines with him to the president.
