About 80 officials from Arab and Muslim countries are due to participate in a meeting in Beirut Thursday to prepare for the first anniversary commemoration of the Palestinian Intifada, reported the Daily Star.

Speakers at the opening session, which will be attended by government representatives, include Hizbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, Jerusalem mufti, Sheikh Ekrema Sabri, and Lebanon’s former minister Michel Edde.

Participants will include Tehran MP, Ali Akbar Mohtashami, as well as Arab League information commissioner Hanan Ashrawi.

Others include trade union leaders from Egypt, Syria, Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon and Tunisia.

Mohtashami met President Emile Lahoud on Wednesday and said that the Lebanese resistance had proved that the only choice for Palestinians was to continue the Intifada, “especially after Israel’s trampling on all pledges and treaties.” - Albawaba.com
