The urgent meeting of Arab League foreign ministers, which was scheduled to take place in Doha to discuss the Middle East crisis, has been postponed until further notice, AFP said, quoting a senior official of the league as saying.
The postponement had been decided during consultations among ministers held on Thursday night, the official said, without elaborating.
An Arab diplomat in Cairo were quoted by the news agency as saying that “the decision was taken in order to see if diplomatic efforts now underway to contain the violence would bear fruit.”
The ministers decided to see whether those efforts, principally by the United States and Egypt, “would evolve in a positive or a negative direction,” it said.
Jordan, which currently chairs the Arab League, had originally called for a meeting of members of a follow-up committee at foreign minister level – Albawaba.com
