A Knesset meeting Tuesday to discuss the demolition of 14 buildings in the occupied east Jerusalem refugee camp of Shu’fat was brought to a premature end after an exchange of verbal abuse between occupied Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert and Israeli Arab MKs, reported Haaretz newspaper.

According to Israel Radio, the Arab MKs repeatedly attacked Olmert, while the mayor called MK Mohammed Barakeh a "bloodthirsty vampire" and a "Hamasnik" (Hamas activist).

In response, Barakeh called Olmert an "inciter and corrupter."

Following the verbal exchange, the Arab MKs declared the meeting over and departed.

Three Palestinian women were hurt as protestors tried to prevent the demolition, an action the Palestinians branded a "provocation."

It was one of Israel's biggest demolition operations in years, provoking tears and stone-throwing.

The Israelis said the buildings had no permits. Palestinians charged that it is next to impossible to obtain building permits from the Israelis. Hundreds crowded around the bulldozers and tried futilely to prevent them from knocking down the structures - Albawaba.com
