An Arab Israeli member of the right-wing Likud party, who has been suggested for a post in Prime Minister-elect Ariel Sharon's cabinet, is being investigated for rape, reported The Jerusalem Post newspaper Wednesday.
The paper said that a woman told that police that Ayoub Kara sexually assaulted her and committed other indecent acts several times between 1999 and 2000 in a Jerusalem hotel.
Police investigating the incidents have questioned Kara's parliamentary assistant and another former co-worker, said the paper.
Kara has denied the allegations, telling the daily that it was the woman who had been "bothering" him, "falling in love" with him at political rallies.
