The 38th assembly of the Arab Parliamentary Union (APU) opens Sunday in Abu Dhabi and discussion will focus on the Intifada, the recent US and British airstrikes on Iraq and Iran's dispute with UAE over three islands, reported the Gulf News.

The two-day 38th assembly of Arab parliamentarians will take place at the Federal National Council's (FNC) headquarters, said the paper.

Delegates will discuss how to resolve disputes in the region and ways to find solutions for supporting the Intifada, impact of US Secretary of State Collin Powell’s visit to the region, as well the recent US and British attacks on Baghdad, said the paper.

At the request of the FNC Parliamentary Division, the Inter-Parliamentary Union included the islands' issue in their agenda at their earlier meetings in Jordan and Indonesia.

Iran and UAE have long disputed over Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs islands.

The islands issue has been previously raised in both the APU and IPU meetings, calling on Iran to resolve the problem peacefully under international principles, said the paper – Albawaba.com
