Emirati rulers have ordered the release of another 159 prisoners to mark the safe return of President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan from surgery in the United States, newspapers reported Sunday.
The latest releases raise the number of inmates pardoned for the president's safe return on November 26 to more than 500, including 350 prisoners whose release was ordered in Dubai last month.
Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad al-Qassimi, ruler of Sharjah, another member of the United Arab Emirates, on Saturday ordered 135 prisoners released, while 24 more inmates were pardoned by Umm al-Qaiwain's ruler, Sheikh Rashed bin Ahmad al-Mualla -- DUBAI (AFP)
