ALBAWABA - The Amsterdam police chief revealed about 40 people were fined and released from jail following violence that erupted ahead of the football match between a local team and an Israeli one.

Violent unrest erupted after Israeli fans tore down a Palestinian flag, attacked a taxi driver and were heard chanting anti-Arab slogans ahead of the game between Amsterdam’s Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv on Nov. 7.

Following that, pro-Palestinians attacked Israeli fans. Authorities in Amsterdam decried the violence and announced arresting 62 people.

The chaos left at least 10 Israeli supporters injured ahead of the European League game between Ajax Amsterdam and Maccabi Tel Aviv, which finished with Ajax winning 5-0.

The Israeli army responded to the crisis by announcing that it would send a team to the Netherlands to help evacuate Israelis who had been impacted by the violence.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed he will be attending the Nations League match against Israel in a gesture of solidarity following the Amsterdam attack.

"France and Israel are playing in a UEFA Nations League match on Thursday (November 14, 2024) that French President Emmanuel Macron will attend," the Elysee Presidential Palace said.

Nonetheless, authorities in Paris revealed that they will be deploying 4,000 officers and 1,600 stadium staff to ensure security.
