Human rights group Amnesty International has called on Turkey to free a Syrian man who has been confined to Istanbul's airport for over a year, Associated Press reported.

Turkish officials have not yet commented on the case. Amnesty has highlighted the case of Fadi Mansour, who has been held since March 15, 2015, in a room without natural light or a bed, named the "Problematic Passengers' Room" at Ataturk Airport.

Amnesty called Mansour's detention and conditions "cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment."

Mansour claims he fled Syria in August 2012 to avoid compulsory military service, spending a month in Turkey before he tried to fly to Malaysia and was returned to Turkey.

Mansour posted a photograph of himself holding a sign that read: "1 year is enough #I need my freedom."
