Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said he will meet Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas on Monday. Olmert made the announcement Sunday at the regular weekly meeting of his Cabinet. Palestinian officials had previously said the meeting would take place Monday in Jerusalem.
Olmert stressed that he intends to continue with his daily routine as usual, despite "vicious rumors" regarding a new criminal investigation against him that surfaced over the weekend. However, the Israeli prime minister announced Sunday that he had cancelled the planned interviews with Israel Radio, Army Radio and other local media outlets in honor of Israel's Independence Day celebrations.
According to AFP, Olmert was questioned on Friday by police investigators in a case that sources described as "very serious."
