Khalid Ali Alturki & Sons (Alturki Group), the leading Saudi based industrial conglomerate, has recently established the “AlTurki Environmental Services”, a strategic step taken by the group in an attempt to assist in enhancing and protecting the ecological system in Saudi Arabia.

Alturki Environmental Services (AES), part of the group’s wholly owned subsidiaries joins hand with governmental bodies and other environmental related entities to provide practical and scientific solutions to the Kingdom’s industrial sector. The initiative will focus on a broad range of activities, offering consultation and analysis for environmental planning and management in several areas including industrial water, wastewater treatment, recycling, municipal water and wastewater facilities.

Alturki Group’s initiative comes in response to rapid industrialization and urbanization in the country, and their effect on the Saudi environment, human health and even the economy. According to recent studies there has been an increase in asthma cases and other illnesses in Saudi Arabia’s most industrialized areas, while real estate values near oil refineries and cement plants have plummeted due the health hazards associated with them. The contamination of tap water has also raised alarm.

Mr. Rami Khalid Alturki, President of the Alturki Group, sees AES as a way to ensure sustained environmental protection for the industrial sector. “Environmental damage, left unchecked, will do immeasurable harm to the landscapes of Saudi Arabia and its people, but also its economic wellbeing.”

To this end, he added, Alturki Environmental Services will provide internationally accredited services to design a wide-ranging environmental protection program for Saudi industry. “One of our main objectives,” Alturki said, “is to provide cost effective and efficient solutions to assist in disposing of many different types of industrial waste, including solid, hazardous and radioactive.”

Alturki Group will also be, sponsoring the 9th Jeddah Economic Forum, JEF 2008, set to commence on the 24th of February, as one of the industry leaders, where Global and regional leaders meet to identify and address economic issues and seek practical solutions, contributing to a stronger economy and enhance involvement with communities.
