With just a few days left until the Red Bull Air Race World Series takes off into the skies over Abu Dhabi, 112 journalists have begun to descend upon the capital to cover one of the UAE’s largest sporting events of the year.

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, reporters from Brazil and Belgium, to Russia, Australia, Japan, Spain, Sweden and beyond are all awaiting the 2007 World Series launch.  In addition, 16 reporters from across the Middle East including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Lebanon will attend.

This year, a record number of local media outlets will be covering this major sporting event, with ART, Al Jazeera Sports, Abu Dhabi Sports and Emarat Channel all televising the race.

To kick off activities, journalists will take the Paddock Walk on April 3rd, giving them the opportunity to meet and greet all the pilots and catch a glimpse of their planes.

While the media is briefed on details of the Air Race, the competitors will spend much of their free time in preparation for Thursday’s qualifying rounds and finally, Friday’s competition.

And as journalists gather their stories and pilots prepare their best game, workers have been hard at work on the ground, transforming the harbour into a specially designed Air Race track.

With a team of specialists working alongside dozens of local workers to complete the unique and portable structures, Air Race officials will have their own race tower, a centralized control room and information hub to cover all angles of the event.  This is not to mention the work that has gone into building the fully equipped media station, tents and lounges – right down to the setup of pylons and air gates.

With Abu Dhabi hosting the launch of the Air Race World Series yet again, this truly global event will shine the spotlight on the UAE capital once more.
