Algeria's incumbent leader president Abdelaziz Bouteflika was sworn in for a fourth term Monday after winning the April 17 poll earlier this month, according to Reuters.

No president has ever served four terms in Algeria.

Bouteflika, 77, has come under scrutiny due to his ailing physical state, with serious questions arising as to whether the incumbent leader is fit enough to continue serving as the head of state.

Many have dismissed the presidential elections held earlier this month as corrupt and fraudulent.

Bouteflika has served as president of Algeria since 1999.
