Algiers is hosting on Wednesday and Thursday the second session of the top-level inter-governmental meeting on the "prevention and fight against terrorism in Africa".
Prior to the meeting's opening, the African Union commission will jointly inaugurate with Algerian authorities the African Research Centre on Terrorism (CAERT).
This Centre is based in Algiers as a token of Africa's recognition, which was keen to express the "consideration it harbours for Algeria's vanguard part in view of terrorism", APS reported.
The idea of establishing this Centre was initiated in Algiers, by Algeria, during the first top-level inter-governmental meeting on the prevention and fight against terrorism in Africa, which took place in September 2002 in Algiers.
This Centre, which was designed as a true AU specialised agency, is to "collect information, surveys and analyses on terrorism and terrorist groups, in close collaboration with the African Union peace and security council and commission".
Up to fifty African delegations, including twenty ministers and around thirty regional and international organisations are expected at this conference. (Albawaba.com)
