According to an audio statement, Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of Al Qaeda, has pledged the group's allegiance to the Taliban's new leader Mullah Mohammad Akhtar Mansour, Reuters reports.
"We pledge our allegiance ... (to) our lord, leader of the faithful, Mullah Mohammad Akhtar Mansour, may god protect him," said Zawahiri, who is believed to be in hiding in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border area.
