Al Azhar Receives $5m for Dubai Ruler to Build Manuscript Website

Egypt’s Al Azhar have received on Monday a donation of $5 million from Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE’s Vice President, prime minister and ruler of Dubai, to create internet sites for the Al Azhar and posting of thousands of rare manuscripts on the world wide web, Emirates official news agency (WAM) reported. 

Sheikh Mohamoud Ashur, Under Secretary of Al Azhar was quoted by the agency as saying that Al Azhar owns 35,000 manuscripts of which copies are found elsewhere and 9,000 rare manuscripts. He added that the Al Azhar would have two sites on the internet, one public and the other for subscribers – Albawaba.com
