Fatah movement has decided to halt attacks against Israelis for the duration of the Iraq war, the group's West Bank leader said Monday, according to AP.
However, other senior members of the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade said that while they were ready to halt bombings and shootings in Israel, they would continue attacking Israeli settlers and soldiers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
the Al Aqsa Martyrs' recently appointed leader, identified by his nom de guerre, Abu Mujahed, said that as long as the world's attention is focused on Iraq, his group will not attack Israelis in order not to give Israel a "pretext to carry out brutal crimes against our people." He spoke to AP by a telephone from the West Bank city of Nablus.
However, local Al Aqsa leaders in the West Bank towns of Jenin and Tulkarem said attacks on soldiers and settlers would continue.
Abu Mujahed also said Al Aqsa would support Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian prime minister-designate, if he reached a cease-fire with Israel. (Albawaba.com)
