Unknown aircraft carried out airstrikes Sunday targeting a Daesh convoy near Libya's Bani Walid, a city council member told Reuters.

Libyan forces and the United States have both conducted airstrikes on the militant group. Earlier this month US warplanes struck a suspected training camp for Daesh in the western city of Sabratha, killing 40 people.

Daesh and other militant groups have taken advantage of the political chaos in Libya since the fall of Moammar Gaddafi and have expanded their presence, taking control of strategic towns and oil resources.
