Air Arabia unveiled the launch of Latakia, the third destination Air Arabia has started flying to in Syria after Damascus and Aleppo. The low-fares Middle East carrier is one of the first international airlines to fly to Latakia-Syria with prices remaining very competitive.
Operations to Latakia will officially start on the 4th of December 2006 with bi-weekly return flights. Departures from Sharjah will be at 8.30am arriving in Latakia at 9.50am local time and returning from Latakia via Aleppo at 10.35am arriving in Sharjah at 17.05pm local time.

Air Arabia Chairman Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Thani said: “Our objective is to identify key markets that hold appeal for residents who originate from destinations as well as markets that attract everyone as visitors. We are pleased that Latakia as a destination is for everyone, whether you crave culture or are looking for adventure. What always matters to us is that our passengers experience both familiar and different environments at very affordable prices.”

The new destination is great for travellers on short holiday breaks given the three and a half hour journey to reach the sea-port town and the fact that it takes only three hours to return to Sharjah. The Mediterranean town is very conveniently located on the coast 186km southwest of Aleppo and 348km northwest of Damascus.

Travellers will have the chance to discover an ancient town turned city after Alexander the Great, the Crusaders and Saladin made their marks there. With seashore of about 182 km long and numerous beaches distinguished by soft sand and unpolluted sea, the Blue Beach of Latakia is the most popular beach on the Eastern Mediterranean.

Starting with a single flight to Bahrain in October 2003, Air Arabia today flies to over 30 destinations across 18 countries, including recent additions like Chennai and Thiruvanthapuram in India, carrying over two million passengers.

Current Air Arabia destinations include Afghanistan (Kabul), Armenia (Yerevan), Bahrain (Manama), Egypt (Alexandria, Assiut and Luxor), India (Chennai, Jaipur, Kochi, Mumbai, Nagpur and Thiruvananthapuram), Iran (Tehran), Jordan (Amman), Kazakhstan (Astana and Almaty), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Damman, Jeddah and Riyadh), Kuwait, Lebanon (Beirut), Nepal (Kathmandu), Oman (Muscat), Qatar (Doha), Sri Lanka (Colombo), Sudan (Khartoum), Syria (Aleppo and Damascus), Turkey (Istanbul), UAE (Sharjah) and Yemen (Sana’a).
