Air Algérie is to levy a special surcharge on its ticket prices to compensate for dramatic increases in commercial aircraft insurance premiums since the September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States, Upline Securities reported.
The amount of the surcharge and its date of application have not yet been announced, although it is expected to range from $1.25 to $5 per ticket. Private carrier Khalifa Airways imposed a similar surcharge on October 1st.
Most of the international airlines suffered badly due to the terrorism attack on the US, as some of them were forced to suspend their operating activities until further notice, while few could not stand the crisis and closed down like the Swiss Air.
However, other companies tried to survive by cutting down their operation cost either by led off thousands of their employees or by squeezing their flying destinations – Albawaba.com
