Ahmed Butti underlines importance of Reform & Modernisation Program for long term success of Dubai Customs

Dubai Customs has announced that it is continuing its efforts to implement the Reform and Modernisation Program, to keep pace with the globalisation, continued growth and the latest trends in international trade. The Reform and Modernisation Program was initiated to complement Dubai’s vision of becoming a regional business and tourism hub.

During a meeting of managers and staff of Dubai Customs to discuss the status and   progress of the program, Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Director General, Dubai Customs said that, Dubai Customs’ strategy was focussed not only on its internal development, but also on a regional and international level. He said that the objective of the program was to further the role played by Dubai Customs in international trade and establish Dubai Customs as one of the foremost customs departments in the region, in terms of signing international agreements and making necessary changes to regulations in coordination with World Customs Organisation (WCO), to meet global developments.

Ahmed Butti also said that coordination between different customs departments in Dubai will ensure the effective implementation of the Reform and Modernisation Program. He said that the program is aimed at evaluating the existing policies and regulations, and to make necessary amendments to ease customs procedures, which will in turn contribute to effective revenue mobilization and facilitate trade and investment.

Emphasising the important role played by human resources in the success of the Reform and Modernisation Program, Ahmed Butti said that regular internal discussions with managers and staff of Dubai Customs was necessary to exchange views and opinions, to ensure the effective implementation of the program. He said that it was vital to work together as a team, to continuously improve and modernise customs procedures.

Friyal Tawakul, Business Process Executive Director at Dubai Customs, gave a presentation during the meeting, explaining the details of the program, the progress so far, and the timeframe for the completion of various stages of the program. She also spoke about the new action plan that is focussed on the introduction of advanced electronic services, which will be a major milestone for Dubai Customs.

During the annual meeting of employees, the current year’s performance of Dubai Customs was evaluated and the objectives for the coming year were presented, which were discussed with all the managers and employees.
