Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday said Tehran considers developing nuclear weapons as "politically retarded". In a press conference on Monday, Ahmadinejad conveyed that he sees the file of Iran's nuclear program as a closed case.

"The talks outside the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) will only be about participation in the management of the world and bringing peace to the world," Ahmadinejad said, according to IRNA. He reiterated past Iranian claims that his country would never seek weapons of mass destructions -- including nuclear weapons.

"We think those who assume restoring nuclear weapons can have the upper hand in political equations are politically retarded," the Iranian president said.

Meanwhile, Ahmadinejad invited US President Barack Obama for a debate at the UN Headquarters in New York.  "If I am reelected in the upcoming presidential elections in Iran, I would like to renew the invitation to President Obama for debate on global issues, as well as world peace and security," said Ahmadinejad.
