Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday expressed his felicitations on Egypt's National Day (July 23). In his message to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Ahmadinejad congratulated the Egyptian government and nation on the country's National Day. He wished "success and honor for the Egyptian government and people," IRNA reported.

The message is important as relations between the two states were once clouded by Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution. Following the revolution, Egypt granted asylum to the last Iranian shah who was dethroned in the Islamic revolution.
