The Afghan unity government on Thursday signed a long-awaited peace deal with the insurgent group Hezb-e Islami Gulbuddin.
Under the agreement, signed in Kabul by high-ranking officials from both sides after months of negotiations, the group is to halt all military activity and dismantle its military operations.
The deal also offers "judicial immunity" to all its members.
Led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Hezb-e Islami Gulbuddin is a splinter group of the original Hezb-e Islami Afghanistan (Islamic Movement of Afghanistan).
It was established in 1977 and has waged war against international forces and the Afghan government since the US-led intervention in 2001.
