Aggreko plc, global leader in providing temporary power generation and temperature control services, today announced the opening of its second depot in Asia. This brings the total number of depots in the Aggreko International region to 22, all of which are administered by the company’s regional headquarters in Dubai.
Located in Yuen Long in the northwest New Territories of Hong Kong, the new depot will provide temporary power generation and load testing services to Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China. Complementing the existing Aggreko network in Singapore and Shanghai, the Hong Kong depot will enhance service capability in the region.
Ian Rogers, Aggreko Asia Managing Director, said that the opening of the new depot is in line with the company’s international expansion strategy. “Aggreko prides itself on our ability to provide highly reliable and flexible power rental solutions, tailored specifically to our clients requirements, and rapidly mobilized to almost anywhere in the world.
“We can now extend this specialized service offering to the Hong Kong region, Macau and mainland China through our new depot. An extensive range of power generation equipment, from 350kVA to 1250kVA offered as individual generator units, or as complete multi-megawatt power packages can be rapidly mobilized across Hong Kong and mainland China, where it is installed and operated quickly and efficiently by specialized Aggreko engineers,” he added.
Both Hong Kong and China have experienced tremendous economic growth in recent years. In Hong Kong, the majority of GDP comes from the service sectors; shipping, civil aviation, tourism and various financial services. Ranking fourth in the world for GDP, China is the fastest growing major economy with GDP mainly attributed to the industrial and service sectors, for example, the construction industry and financial sector.
“Setting up in Hong Kong was a natural progression of our business in Asia,” said Rogers. “Similar to our Singapore operation the shipping, construction, manufacturing, and events sectors in Hong Kong provide both power generation and temperature control opportunities for Aggreko.”
John Rutherford, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, who congratulated Aggreko on its regional expansion, said: “With the rapid economic development and vibrant business environment in Hong Kong and the region, Aggreko is well poised to tap the immense opportunities by establishing a strategic foothold in Hong Kong.”
Aggreko’s first Asian depot was established in Singapore in 1989. Serving as the SE Asian hub for Aggreko, business in the region has grown significantly in the last 17 years, particularly in the shipping industry. As the ports in Singapore and Hong Kong are two of the busiest ports in the world, Aggreko is well placed to provide power and load testing services for the shipping industry.
Aggreko’s experience in Asia includes: load testing services at the Dalian Shipyard; broadcast power during the Shanghai Grand Prix; commissioning power during construction of the Manjung Power Station; emergency supplementary power for a paper plant in the Philippines, and power generation and comfort cooling during the Asian Aerospace exhibition in Singapore.
“We are always looking for opportunities to expand our existing operations or to establish ourselves in new markets. Asia is a particularly interesting market and one that we expect to further extend our operations in the future,” Rogers said.
