The all Afghan girl robotics team, thanks to the last minute intervention of the US President, Donald Trump, arrived in the American Capital Saturday to attend an international robotics competition.
The team members profusely thanked Trump for his last minute intervention for them to arrive in the US after the American Embassy in Kabul denied them the visa for the same twice.
“I feel so happy that I can’t describe in words,” team member Fatemah Qaderyan told The Washington Post after their arrival at the Washington Dulles International Airport Saturday. They were welcomed at the airport by the Afghan Ambassador to the US, Hamdullah Mohib and the Acting US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Alice Wells.
“We felt so disappointed (when we were denied visa) because our team members had worked very hard for six months,” the 14-year-old added.
“Finally our robotics team from Afg arrived in DC, they are going to compete with all other nations at #FIRSTGlobalChallenge. Proud of them!” tweeted Elaha Mohboob, co-funder of Afghan Citadel Software Company.
In a statement, Mohib said these young women] represent Afghans aspirations and resilience despite having been brought up in a perpetual conflict. “These girls will be proving to the world and the nation that nothing will prevent us from being an equal and active member of the international community,” he said.
