Egypt's national airline EgyptAir has resumed flights to Tel Aviv two days after saying it had stopped them in response to popular anger over the Israeli attack in the West Bank, an official said on Sunday.
A Boeing-737 owned by Air Sinai, a subsidiary of EgyptAir, left for Tel Aviv on Sunday morning with only 23 passengers on board, the airline official said.
"The flight stoppage last week was for commercial reasons and not political ones, or because of the popular demonstrations," he added, according to Reuters.
Another EgyptAir official had said on Friday that the decision to stop flights was "an answer to popular Egyptian demands to stop flights between Egypt and Israel".
There have been protests in Egypt over the Israeli attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank over the last two weeks. Protesters have called for all links with Israel to be cut.
Air Sinai used to run five flights a week between Cairo and Israel, although the number of flights was reduced in recent times to twice a week because of low demand. (Albawaba.com)
