African First Ladies plan to convene a summit in Marrakech 20th-22nd April to discuss problems affecting children in Africa, official sources announced in Rabat Tuesday.
According to the sources, some 23 countries have confirmed participation at the summit, which will dwell on the theme: "Today's young girl is tomorrow's woman, Panafrican News Agency (PANA) reported.
Participants are expected to shed light on the situation of today's young girl in Africa, and determine how to improve her social, economic and educational conditions, the advisor to King Mohammed VI, Zoulikha Nasri told a press conference.
Meanwhile, the UNICEF representative in Morocco has described the summit as "a momentous African event,” the agency said.
He said Morocco, which decided to host the summit, was among the first group of countries that expressed interest in improving the plight of children in Africa.
Princess Lalla Meryem, the King's elder sister who is also president of the Moroccan National Children's Rights Observatory will chair the summit, which is placed under the patronage of the Moroccan monarch – Albawaba.com
