Africa investor Agribusiness Investment Awards presented in Durban

Africa investor (Ai), a leading international investment research and communications group, tonight announced the winners of its prestigious 2010 Africa investor Agribusiness Investment Awards to the global agricultural investment community.
The Awards formally recognise the agribusiness players who are changing the landscape of the African agricultural sector; who are promoting investment across the main agribusiness and finance sectors in Africa, and their achievements therein.
The Awards winners represent some of the most important personalities within Africa’s agribusiness industry. The Africa investor Agro-Processing Initiative of the Year category was awarded to Nestlé and the Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs and Rural Development, KwaZulu-Natal, while Biofuels Initiative of the Year went to the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development, for their innovative technology and effective application of bio-gas programmes in Uganda.
Dr Bingu wa Mutharika, Minister of Agriculture, Malawi, was honoured with the Minister of Agriculture of the Year category. The all-important Personality of the Year Award went to Dr Zweli Mkhize, Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, for his outstanding work promoting agriculture in the province for KwaZulu-Natal and his vision for partnerships across Africa, as well as his emphasis on uplifting the community through the development of small- and medium-sized enterprises. Commenting on the Awards winners, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Africa investor, Hubert Danso, said; “The level of winners this year is a testament to the series of impressive organisations pioneering agribusiness investments across the continent. Africa investor congratulates all the winners for their achievements and all those organisations that submitted entries and participated in the important process of showcasing their agribusiness success stories”.
The Awards were presented during the Africa investor Agribusiness Investment Summit hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs and Rural Development.
