The Afghan embassy in the Saudi Kingdom, which closed in September last year after Riyadh severed relations with the former Taliban regime, has reopened, the new Afghan ambassador said on Tuesday.
"The embassy in Riyadh has been open for regular work for the last two weeks," said Mohammad Anwar, who presented a copy of his credentials to Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal on Tuesday.
In the meantime, Saudi Arabia reopened its embassy in Afghanistan in February, almost five months after closing it in the wake of the September 11 attacks against the United States. "Our relations with Saudi Arabia are deep-rooted in history. They had been good and they remain excellent," Anwar told AFP, also confirming that the Afghan consulate general in Jeddah had resumed normal duty.
