In honour of the late H.H Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak, Minister of Education, Abu Dhabi National Hotels (ADNH) sponsored the First Sheikh Zayed World Karate Riyu-Jitsu Open Tournament.
The tournament took place on September 21 and was organised by Khulood Karate Club in collaboration with the UAE Wrestling and Judo Federation, which hosted the event at its Abu Dhabi headquarters.
Around 85 fighters from 22 different countries including United Arab Emirates, USA, Japan, Spain, Lebanon, Iran, India, Palestine, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia had taken part with the UAE team being the largest, made up of 22 players.
As part of the events schedule teams will visit the tomb of H.H Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan on September 22, to pay their respects to the late UAE leader. Abu Dhabi National Hotel’s sponsorship of the event involved providing accommodation and transport to fighters and delegates.
“The tournament will be a great tribute to our late leader and will strengthen the reputation of Abu Dhabi as an ideal location for sporting events,” said H. E. Khalifa Nasser Bin Huwaileel Al Mansoori, Chairman, Abu Dhabi National Hotels.
