ADIPEC 2008, one of the largest international petroleum exhibitions and conferences in the world, has had the difficult task of judging entries after a record number of abstract submissions following the call for papers. The process has now been completed by the conference committee, under the guidance of the conference programme organisers, the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) who can now announce the key topics to be presented at the 2008 ADIPEC Conference from the 3rd – 6th of November.
One of the important features of the ADIPEC Conference is that it breaks through traditional barriers and aims to foster an environment where professionals from the oil industry can discuss and review industry best practices that can add real value to their own businesses.
Fittingly, this year’s ADIPEC Conference’s theme is “Working Together to Deliver Sustainable Growth: Innovative Teams and Technology Deployment” and focuses on a wide ranging selection of technical categories from sustainability and growth in oil and gas production to the role of technology development in improving efficiency of oil and gas production. In addition, field development, geoscience and maintenance, integrity and operations will all be included.
Perhaps as importantly, the importance of the human factor is given due attention with categories including the importance of talent development and retention and the development of innovative teams to meet the challenges of the future.
Selected speakers include representative from all of the top international oil and gas firms: BP, ExxonMobil, Saudi Aramco, Total, Shell, Environmental Friends Society, Gasco and Occidental and also from the Ministry of Economy and Planning, Baker Hughes and the Petroleum Institute. Executive panelists such as Andrew Gould of Schlumberger, Tony Howard of BP and Tim Cejka of ExxonMobil have already confirmed their appearances at the Executive Plenary sessions on the opening afternoon of the conference, with more confirmations to be announced in the near future.
The Human Resources Development panel will include Didier Chareton from Baker Hughes and Leo Roodhart, President of the SPE and be moderated by Badria Khalfan, ADMA-OPCO and Clive Eckersley of NExT, while the Technology Innovation panel will include Mohamed Saggaf from Saudi Aramco and Joe Sandy of Halliburton with Zara Khatib from Shell moderating.
Other invited panelists such as the 2009 President of the SPE will also be taking an active role in chairing and leading discussions, ensuring that ADIPEC 2008 will be the most important meeting of minds of the Oil and Gas Industry worldwide.
The full list of conference topics is:
• Human resources development
• Sustainability
• New frontiers development and emerging producers
• The changing face of the petro-dollar
• The peak production debate
• Future gas development
• Technology innovation
• Project management in a changing contracting environment
• Technology deployment in a collaborative environment

ADIPEC 2008 will take place in the newly expanded Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from the 3rd – 6th November 2008. With exhibitors and visitors from all around the globe coming to demonstrate and share invaluable industry knowledge, ADIPEC 2008 is the ideal opportunity to network with international industry leaders and experts, as well as discover the latest technologies, innovations, services and trends.
There is still time for delegates to take advantage of early bird registration rates until the 15th of August. Registration can be easily completed at www.adipec.com/delegates. Further discount rates are also available for group bookings, exhibitors, and members of SPE, SPWLA, EAGE and SCA.
