In the latest string of attacks on US soldiers and infrastructure in Iraq one U.S. soldier killed Sunday and a fuel pipeline exploded and caught fire west of Baghdad.
In a grenade attack, which took place in Khan Azad, just south of the capital, one soldier was killed and another was wounded. It was the ninth American soldier to die in a guerilla action in Iraq this month.
On Saturday, an American military vehicle was badly damaged afternoon from a blast, probably caused by a land mine. The incident took place near the town of Hit, some 140 km northwest of Baghdad, a statement by the U.S. military in Iraq said Sunday. Two US soldiers were wounded, but their condition was unknown. A witness said the two U.S. soldiers were wounded in the legs.
Also in Hit, the American army reported there had been a gas pipeline blast and fire. "The cause of the fire was still under investigation," a U.S. military spokesman said, adding that there were no reports of casualties, Reuters reported.
Later, Naim al-Goud, mayor of Hit, said people from outside his region attacked the pipeline. "They want to make trouble between the American and the people of Hit," he said. "We are trying to arrest them." (Albawaba.com)
