The Jordanian government changes have not only surprised the press and political circles but also many ministers who just wrapped up the state’s general budget project for 2002 which secured the king’s approval. These ministers never thought that other colleagues would implement what they had planned in the days to come.

Premier Abu al Ragheb only was working silently and away from spotlights on reforming his government to achieve harmony among its members so that it would be stronger in implementing its tasks. Once he obtained the green light from the Royal Palace, Abu al Ragheb rushed to submit the resignation of his government Monday morning to be asked to reform it in the afternoon of the same day.

Observers in the Jordanian capital saw the government reformation as reflecting the king’s willingness to give the premier the opportunity to complete the economic reform program and supervise the forthcoming parliamentary elections in addition to renewing his confidence in him.

Harmony among the cabinet members, the observers say, was inevitable to counter the upcoming challenges including preparations for the elections, the international war against terrorism and the future of the peace process. This is in addition to completing the economic reform program which Abu al Ragheb’s first government started.

According to informed sources a date would soon be set for the parliamentary elections which would most probably be run in September 2002 in light of a confirmation by the king that these elections will take place this year. At the economic level, the government will work on the same agenda in order to achieve the targeted activities and implement the budget planned by the specialized ministerial team.

To sum up, this government is perceived with optimism as the way is paved for it to implement its plans. Albawaba.com
