Acer Recognized for “Outstanding Contribution to Hardware”

Acer has received official recognition for its exceptional achievements in the Middle East IT industry at the prestigious ITP-hosted 2005 Arab Technology Awards, collecting the International Stars award for “Outstanding Contribution to Hardware.”

The company was selected for the honour based upon its strong presence in the region, and particularly for the benefits brought by Acer technology to the government and educational sectors of the Middle East.

Acer has established a leadership position over the past five years, holding the number one position for sales of laptop computers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and first or second places in the region’s other markets. Driven by innovation in every product area, Acer is increasing setting the standards for office and home technology.

“The Middle East IT market has witnessed remarkable change and growth over the last few years and as a consequence it has been our ambition to make Acer a market leader in every area where we operate,” said Krishna Murthy, general manager of Acer Middle East.

“We are pleased and proud to receive this award, because it demonstrates our deepening relationship with leading organizations in the region and reflects the hard work that Acer and our partners have invested in recent years,” he added.

Acer continues to develop its presence in the region. The company is currently reviewing plans to establish an assembly plant in Saudi Arabia, and Acer’s Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) business continues to demonstrate strong returns.

In addition, the company has plans to unveil a new range of servers and LCD television in the coming months.

In collecting the “Outstanding Contribution to Hardware” award, Acer joined a list of other International Stars, which included Oracle, Microsoft, Intel, IBM and Cisco.

Other awards were presented to Her Highness Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Economy and Planning, and Board Member of Tejari, who won an award for her outstanding contribution to e-commerce, while Her Excellency Ms. Nadia Al-Saeed, Jordan’s Minister of ICT, was recognised for the ministry’s role in driving public/private sector cooperation in the Hashamite Kingdom’s IT industry.

A Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler, Minister of Finance and Industry, and Chairman of the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

Sponsored by Etisalat, the UAEs leading telecommunications provider and held in association with the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX), the Middle East’s largest information technology conference, the IT Weekly Arab Technology Awards ceremony celebrated 25 years of innovation across the Middle East, honouring the technology pioneers, leaders and educators of the Arab World. The event was held at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Dubai.
