Under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and the President of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Trustees, Abu Dhabi University celebrates its fourth graduation for both undergraduate and postgraduate students on the 14th of June 2010 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Center. The fourth graduate class consists out of 346 students - 142 male students (57 undergraduate and 85 postgraduate) and 204 female students (113 undergraduate and 91 postgraduate); 253 of which are from the Abu Dhabi Campus, and 93 students that hail from the Al Ain Campus. 187 (64%) of the total number of graduates are local students. The graduation ceremony will be attended by a number of Sheikhs, ministers, high-ranking officials, diplomats, and the parents of graduates.
Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, ADU Chairman of the Executive Board, said that this occasion is a very important milestone for both the students and the university. The university is proud and honored to celebrate its fourth graduation ceremony, while it is also overjoyed by the success of the graduates who completed all the requirements to earn their bachelors or masters degrees. He also mentioned that graduates are distributed amongst 22 diverse majors ranging from engineering and technology, to administrative and humanitarian fields. The fourth graduate class of ADU consists out of a student body from over 45 different nationalities. This provided its graduates with a multicultural environment in which traditions and values from all over the world could be found in one place.
Bin Harmal noted that the university’s strategy focuses on serving the community’s needs as well as the development process in Abu Dhabi, the country and the region. This resulted in the large number of graduates which the university is proud to present to the different establishments represented in the current job market.
Bin Harmal also pointed out the unyielding support of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE, in the field of education. Through the support of his education is now considered one of the major pillars supporting the UAE’s development. Bin Harmal also expressed his appreciation for the vision and guidance of H.H. Sheikh Mohamad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and President of Abu Dhabi Education Council, who made Abu Dhabi a unique center for teaching and learning around the region and the world. H.H. also provided Abu Dhabi University and other academic and educational institutions with opportunities to excel globally with their programs, curricula and projects. These initiatives were all designed to service various growing fields of demand, harnessing the most relevant and current scientific methods to address these issues.
Dr. Nabil Ibrahim, ADU Chancellor, said that the university is continuously developing and growing. This is especially apparent when looking at the growing number of students enrolled, the continuous recruitment of the best academic staff, and the number of new academic programs launched. New programs include a Bachelor Degree in Environmental Sciences (College of Arts & Science), a Bachelor Degree in Architecture (College of Engineering and Computer Science), along with a variety of other programs in different fields which are still under accreditation from Accreditation Agency at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Dr. Nabil also mentioned that ADU's fourth graduate class includes 170 undergraduate students; 22 of which graduated from the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences, 117 of which graduated from the College of Business Administration, and 31 of which graduated from College of Arts and Sciences. The graduation ceremony will also include 176 postgraduate students; 168 of which graduated from the College of Business Administration, and 8 graduated from the College of Arts and Science.
